[EDIT]:
Apparently while I was busy drawing and posting this, the issue was being resolved. Hooray!

I'm still leaving the rant up because ... well, I worked hard on it. :sniff:

Here's the shoe-drop: regardless of anyone's views or definitions of LGBT or transgender specifically, one should at least have the decency of owning up when one sticks their foot in their ignorant mouth.

What I'm on about.

The issue of what genders are available to pick from a drop-down menu is not a world-shaking grievance, but is nonetheless a legitimate concern for those who feel ostracized by a lack of suitable option. Wasn't it not that long ago some people would be furious if limited to the options of "Mr", "Mrs" or "Miss"?. What's grinding my gears is the blatant attempt to make a legitimate concern go away by insulting it, ignoring it, and burying it in administrative BS. Not to mention speaking with callous insensitivity and making little effort to even seem repentant.

This from a website who went purple on Oct. 20th. Way to not look like hypocrites, guys.

I do know what it's like to be confused by something you're taught is supposed to be one way but really isn't, but I do not appreciate ignorance when there is no excuse for it. There are plenty of ways to educate yourself. Don't go trying to tell someone they don't know what their naughty bits mean, then retreat into a foxhole of bureaucratic bull-crap. That won't accomplish anything.

People, young people, are right now being bullied to the point of suicide for daring to express who they are and what they feel. It doesn't matter if you're speaking of gender, sexuality or preference, this is a result of those who shut themselves up in the same ignorant black-and-white world. Ignorance never solved anything. It never makes anyone look good. And it hurts more than some people will ever have the privilege to know.

Live in the grey, people. We have George Takei.
Who, btw, is AWESOME.

Regardless what this ever accomplishes, I really find myself wanting a blue pinstriped suit now.

For a straight guy with factory issue equipment, I know what is probably an unlikely number of Ls, Gs, Bs, Ts, TVs, BDs, and assorted hoo-ha. And since I never ask, I probably know a lot more that I don't know about. I don't assume I can guess, because some of my friends do amazing closet jobs, others have been wrongly assumed to be in one or another of those categories, and at least three of them register totally neutral on my genderometer (which I think is awesome cool). I've been confidently misidentified as gay by several people (almost all of them nice, gay-friendly folks), and occasionally as a plainclothes policeman; so I assume my own signals are weird. I don't think geeky counts as a gender, though. Anyway, is grey already spoken for as a ribbon color? Is there an anthem?

The blue pinstripe suit is great, and the matching hat is a hoot, but the look makes it. :)
